I came across this while studying Bible prophecy being fulfilled in modern times.
For Gaza shall be forsaken, And Ashkelon desolate; They shall drive out Ashdod at noonday, And Ekron shall be uprooted. -- Zephaniah 2:4
This verse states that Gaza will be forsaken. In March of 2003 President Bush speaks about a 'Roadmap for Peace in the Middle East.' In this speech he says, "Settlement activity in the occupied territoy must end." He is speaking of Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip. Part of that speech can be viewed here.
On August 15, 2005, Ariel Sharon (Prime Minister of Israel) speaks about Israel's decision to withdrawl from Gaza. - Link
According to Wikipedia, on August 22, 2005 the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) evacuated Netzarim, an Israeli settlement 5 kilometers southwest of Gaza City. - Link
Certain events following the evacuation of Netzarim made me think of Genesis 12 when God tells Abram that He "will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you."
Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” -- Genesis 12:1-3
On August 23, 2005 hurricane Katrina formed over the Gulf of Mexico. - Link
Also, Ariel Sharon had a ischemic stroke less than four months after the evacuation of Gaza. - Link
“For behold, in those days and at that time, When I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem, I will also gather all nations, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there On account of My people, My heritage Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; They have also divided up My land. -- Joel 3:1-2
In conclusion, it certainly looks as if God is judging those who divide His land.
